Carved Vase by tiamtree
artisan spotlight
Korean woodcarver Tiamtree transforms rare black persimmon into sculptural vessels that honour both material and memory.
A Statement Piece Unlike Any Other
TIAMTREE's practice is rooted in reverence for wood's inherent character. Beginning in furniture-making before dedicating herself fully to carving in 2019, she has developed a distinctive approach that marries traditional woodturning with contemporary sculptural sensibility.
The Philosophy of Patient Craft
The Carved Vase exemplifies her meditative process. Black persimmon, with its natural patterns formed over decades, demands the same slow, deliberate approach—removing fragments piece by piece with chisel in hand. The wood's organic openings remain untouched, a testament to time's quiet artistry.
On Irreplaceable Rarity
This Vase is carved from black persimmon wood so exceptionally rare that its like may never be found again. The natural openings and dark mineral patterns form over decades within the living tree—impossible to replicate or predict.
After completing this series, TIAMTREE herself believes she will not encounter material of this quality again. What you see here represents the end of a particular conversation between artist and wood.
